Mary Wood Biography

I was born in Maidstone, Kent, United Kingdom in 1945, the thirteenth child of fifteen children. Repatriation after the second world war saw my family being re-settled in Leicestershire. Most of my childhood was spent in villages. We lived in ex-Army huts and it felt like a palace when we were finally allocated a three bed roomed Council house.

I slept in a double bed with three of my sisters, but gradually made it to a bed of my own as each sister left to get married. In the wintertime my mum used old coats to cover me and my siblings at night to try to keep us warm.

Educated at St Peter's RC School in Hinckley, I loved writing from a very young age. When setting composition titles, one teacher used to say to me: 'Mary Olley (my nee name) I want one page and one page only, not a novel!' And yet, another teacher, of whom I have fond memories, Mr Tom Payne, encouraged my to write all I could and even remarked that he thought I would one day be an Author!

It took a long time, but at last I have achieved this.

Sixteen years ago, Tyne Whitlock cut all ties to her past and left town under the shameful shadow of a teenage pregnancy. Now her fifteen-year-old son is in trouble with the law, and she is desperate for help. But reaching out to high-powered attorney Lucas Silver Hawk will tear open the heart-wrenching past in ways Tyne never imagined.

Forced to return to the Delaware Indian community where Lucas was raised, Tyne and Lucas are tempted by the heated passion that consumed them as teens. Tyne rediscovers all the reasons she found this man irresistible, but there are scandalous secrets waiting to be revealed, disgraceful choices made in the past that cannot be denied. Love is a powerful force that could heal them both—if the truth doesn't rip them apart.

A note from the author:
On becoming a Montlake Author:
Let me tell you about my wonderful publishing experience! I have to back up a little bit… to this past spring. I self-published a romance titled Reclaim My Heart. The book received great reviews immediately, and it sold well from the beginning. Very well. In fact, during the first week of August I was enjoying a mug of coffee while perusing the USA Today Bestseller's List (my usual Thursday morning routine), and I nearly choked when I saw that Reclaim My Heart was sitting at #123 on the list. A couple of days later I was contacted by an editor from Montlake. She told me she'd read one of my books months before and had been keeping an eye on me. She said she

'd read Reclaim My Heart and loved it. Now, what author doesn't love to hear that? She made an offer I couldn't refuse.
The Montlake editor and the design team loved the cover that was on the indie version of the book; however, Amazon had trouble licensing the rights to the image. So we searched for weeks before finding the picture that's on the current cover. I love it! And I hope my readers do, too.

I'm happy to be writing romance novels for Montlake. I feel wanted and appreciated, and it can't get much better than that in the publishing industry!

Carly Phillips goes Indie!

 Carly’s Big News!

Posted by  at Oct 15, 2013 5:51 am

I know I’ve been teasing everyone for a while now about some exciting news that I have in the works. And I now have the official go-ahead to tell the world what’s coming next for me! Are you ready? I’m so ready to share. I’ve been DYING to shout from the rooftops and have had a hard time keeping the news to myself. But here you go:

I’m going Indie!

That’s right. Instead of publishing my next series of books with a traditional publisher, I’ve decided to self-publish the series. Don’t worry, I’ll explain what this means for you. But first …
I made the decision to self-publish my next series for one primary reason:YOU, my readers. The rise and success of self-publishing has obviously made a huge impact on the industry, and many of my readers have reached out to me personally, encouraging me to make some changes. Although my publishers have always been very good to me and I’ve very much enjoyed working with them, there is a good reason for me to make the switch. More control. Making the move to indie is giving me more control over my books. I’m no longer tied to a specific word count set by a publisher. I have more control over the editing process. I can make the final decisions on covers, release dates, blurbs and content. And the most important factor: I now set the price points of my books. Making the switch to self-publishing is giving me total control to make both myself and you, my readers very, very happy.
