The Inspiring Story Behind the Song Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer:

I received this story in an email newsletter that I received today. I have never heard this story before. I am sharing it with you, my readers here at Sizzling Hot Romance. Merry Christmas to everyone!

The Inspiring Story Behind the Song Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer:

From a depressed widower father, to a millionaire. How did Rudolph change the life of Robert "Bob" May?
(from SocyBerty.com, Nov. 19, 2008)

As the holiday season of 1938 came to Chicago, Bob May, 34-year old ad writer for Montgomery Ward, a father of a four-year old girl, was exhausted, broke, and about to lose his wife to cancer.

One night, Barbara, his daughter asked him, "Why isn’t mommy like everybody else’s mommy?" As he struggled to answer his daughter’s question, Bob remembered the pain of his own childhood. A small, sickly boy, he was constantly picked on and called names. So he began to spin a tale about a reindeer with a bright red nose who found a special place on Santa’s team. Barbara loved the story so much that she made her father tell it every night before bedtime. A he did, it grew more elaborate. Because he couldn’t afford to buy his daughter a gift for Christmas, Bob decided to turn the story into a homemade picture book.

Bob’s wife died in early December. A few days before Christmas, he reluctantly attended a company at Montgomery Ward. His co-workers encouraged him to share the story he’d written. After he read it, there was a standing ovation. Everyone wanted copies of their own.

Montgomery Ward bought the rights to the book from their debt-ridden employee. Over the next six years, at Christmas, they gave away six million copies of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer to shoppers. Every major publishing house in the country was making offers to obtain the book. In an incredible display of good will, the head of the department store returned all rights to Bob May. Four years later, Rudolph had made him into a millionaire.

He soon remarried and was blessed with good fortune and a growing family. There was more to come. His brother-in-law Johnny Marks, set the uplifting story to music. The song was pitched to artists from Bing Crosby on down. They all passed. Finally, Marks approached Gene Autry. The cowboy star had scored a holiday hit with "Here Comes Santa Claus" a few years earlier. Like the others, Autry wasn’t impressed with the song about the misfit reindeer. Marks begged him to give it a second listen. Autry played it for his wife, Ina. She was so touched by the line "They wouldn’t let poor Rudolph join in any reindeer games" that she insisted her husband to record the tune.

Within a few years, it had become the second best-selling Christmas song ever, right behind "White Christmas." Since then, Rudolph has come to life in TV specials, cartoons, movies, toys, games, coloring books, greeting cards, and even a Ringling Bros. circus act. The little red-nosed reindeer dreamed up by Bob May and immortalized in song by Johnny Marks has come to symbolize Christmas as much as Santa Claus, evergreen trees and presents.

As the last line of the song says, "He’ll go down in history."

Dreaming of a White Christmas

Growing up in the South where it rarely snowed, it was hard to imagine a white Christmas. More often than not, we would have our windows open and the fan blowing while sweating over a hot stove preparing the turkey and dressing and all those yummy trimmings that filled the house with such delicious smells. The radio would be playing I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas while outside the sun shone on the pine trees without a hint of a snowflake anywhere in sight. We would decorate our Christmas tree with fake icicles while dreaming of snow banked up to the window sills and the sounds of sleigh bells drifting faintly through the air. By the time we gathered around the table, joining hands and bowing our heads in prayer, thoughts of a white Christmas had drifted away once again. The sun shone outside while inside the house was filled with love and joy and thankfulness at being together once again on this glorious Christmas Day!

Wishing you a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year!

Amanda Young - Romance Without Inhibition

From Amanda Young's Website:

Amanda Young is a multi-published, erotic romance author. Since she tends to write whatever strikes her whimsy, all of her novels fall into various subgenres. Among her many available titles you’ll find contemporary and paranormal settings, gay and straight themes alike. You never know what merry adventure her evil muse will devise next.

Basically, she writes stories about people who love indiscriminately and wholeheartedly. Her characters are never perfect; they’re flawed and oftentimes troubled. Which makes it that much more satisfying when they receive the happy ending we all deserve. No matter what genre her books fall into, she can guarantee they’ll end with a happily ever after. In her opinion, it’s just not a romance without one.

Amanda has too many books published to pick just one to feature here at Sizzling Hot Romance. I recommend that you go have a look at her bookshelf.

Amanda also has some free reads available for download.

Can't get enough of author Francis Ray!

Yes, I featured best-selling author Francis Ray here at Sizzling Hot Romance not too long ago. But I just have to bring her back for this special announcement. I just received her latest newsletter and found out that she is giving away a free story for Christmas. The title is The Wish. It was previously published in Gettin' Merry.

I just downloaded it for myself and can't wait to read it. Thanks so much for the very nice Christmas present, Francis! You rock!

To get your copy, go to Francis Ray website and click the download link.

Oh and if you haven't gotten her latest novel, One Night With You, I urge you to do so. I finished reading it a few weeks ago and it is fabulous! I treasure my autographed copy. It is definitely going on my "keepers shelf" in my bookcase. There's just something about those rugged Montana men that gets the little ole heart pounding!

Here in Francis' own words is her idea behind writing The Wish:

Why I wrote "The Wish"

My mother gave me a copy of Grimm’s Fairy Tales when I was about ten years old. Even before then I was a dreamer and believed in the power of wishes. Christmas is the perfect time for wishes and dreams to come true. There is something magical in the air during this season, an irrepressible feeling that anything can happen if you believe strongly enough. I wanted to bring all of this joy and hope to the page when I was asked to write a novella for the Christmas anthology, Gettin’ Merry. I thought what better way to incorporate all of these elements than to write about a modern day fairy godmother who grants wishes.

I usually start with characters when I begin a new story, but this time I built the story around a small close-knit fictional town called Jubilee, Texas. Jubilee closely resembles my hometown where everyone knows everyone and secrets never remain secrets for long. In Jubilee family is important, traditions are strong, and neighbors are always ready with a helping hand, a word of advice or a home-cooked meal.

Once I had the setting, I visualized my hero, Nicholas, and my heroine, Andrea, and knew instinctively that he would be businesslike and pragmatic, and she would be down-to-earth and a dreamer. Nicholas thinks it’s ludicrous to believe that once a wish is spoken into the universe it simply waits until the appointed time to be granted. Andrea believes in wishes, but she doesn’t believe she’ll ever have one granted. Nicholas and Andrea are about to learn that when it comes to wishes, anything is possible.

Emma Jamison never thought she'd have to answer that question, but here she is, smack dab in the middle of a political scandal that would make Monica Lewinsky blush. Trouble is, nobody believes that Emma wasn't the call-girl who killed the president-to-be with her, uh, carnal skills.

About Robin Wells:
Before becoming a full-time writer, Robin Wells was an advertising and public relations executive, but she always dreamed of writing novels—a dream inspired by a grandmother who told “hot tales” and parents who were both librarians.

When she sold her first novel, her family celebrated at a Chinese restaurant. Robin’s fortune cookie read “Romance moves you in a new direction”—and it has. Robin has won the RWA Golden Heart Award, two National Readers’ Choice Awards, the Holt Medallion and CRW’s Award of Excellence.

No Lady and Her Tramp by Kristie Leigh Maguire and Mark Haeuser

No Lady and Her Tramp, reminiscent of the TV show "Married with Children" minus the children and in a different setting, will have you rolling in the aisles as you follow the exploits of the residents of President Park, the trailer park to top all trailer parks. When Beth Ann Dixon buys herself a computer and decides to write a steamy erotic novel, her husband, Billy Ray, can't do much of anything right, not even shoot a gun. Janet Higgins is the resident Peeping Tom - and Troy Finkmyer is the guy we all love to hate. Everybody gets into the act and there are showdowns all over Grapevine - Grapevine, Kentucky that is. Shirley Snodgrass is the local gossip columnist for the Grapevine Gazette and records it all in her column, 'I Heard It Through the Grapevine'. You'll laugh, you'll cheer, and you may even shed a tear as you read No Lady and Her Tramp by Kristie Leigh Maguire and Mark Haeuser.

No Lady and Her Tramp was a laugh out loud read. Each character is colorful in their own unique way. Fast paced and full of surprises, you will be at the edge of your seat waiting for the next outlandish antic to occur. I have never read a romance novel like this, it is truly unique. If you enjoy romance, humor and suspense you will certainly enjoy this good read.  - Sheri A. Wilkinson

About Kristie Leigh Maguire and Mark Haeuser:
Kristie Leigh Maguire has chosen to follow the 'road less traveled' in her writing career. She is quoted as saying, "I am an Independent Author and proud of it. I have never been accused of being like everyone else. I guess you could say that I am a true child of the sixties - doing things my way, and just a bit of a rebel at heart. I feel that Joe Blow Public has sense enough to know what they want to read without being held by the hand and led down the garden path. And if Joe Blow Public decides that they don't like my books that I put out in the world, then so be it. That is their choice. At least I had the guts to put them out there - my way."

Mark Haeuser was born and raised in the beautiful farm country near Fountain City, Wisconsin. The oldest son of two loving parents, he spent most of his youth roaming the hills and valleys of the Mississippi's driftless area. Mark began writing in 1997 after a trip to a local bookstore. After spending hours searching, he realized that no one wrote the kind of stories he wanted to read. He loved adventure stories and craved the kind of realistic action he had lived as a police officer. He decided to try his hand at writing his own books.

Sometimes a book blurb grabs you so much you have to share it!

Yes, I know the name of my blog is Sizzling Hot Romance and the name of my game is to showcase romance novels and authors, including myself (after all I am a romance author too and I think I have published some pretty good novels!).

But sometimes a book blurb grabs me so much that I must share it with my readers even if it is not classified as a romance novel. This is the case with Sugar by Bernice McFadden. I stumbled across this book through an email from Red Room, an online site I belong to. Sugar will grab you by the throat and not let you go. Sugar is not a new book.

In fact, Bernice is celebrating the book's 10th anniversary with a new cover and a campaign to sell 10,000 copies by January 9, 2010. I am going to do my part by purchasing a copy myself. How can I not? After reading an excerpt, I HAVE to read this book!

Here is a blurb about Sugar:
Set in the fictionalized town of Bigelow, Arkansas, circa 1950, Sugar is a rich and moving story that traces the lives of two unforgettable women and the small community they change. After the horrible death of her young daughter, Jude, Pearl Taylor turns to the church for support, suppressing her own desires. But when Sugar, a beautiful, uninhibited spirit (who resembles Judewith eerie similarity) moves into the neighboring home at 10 Grove Street, Pearl's life is irrevocably and dramatically changed. Over sweet potato pie the two woman learn to trust and confide in each other, but when the local gossips discover that Sugar is a prostitute, Pearl shocks the once quiet town-and herself-by remaining loyal to her new friend. Filled with lyrical prose, McFadden reveals her talent for using language with an almost spiritual grace to describe the vivid and mysterious details found in everyday life. Sugar is a timeless story of what it means to accept and to forgive.

Eileen Goudge and "Once in a Blue Moon"

Eileen Goudge's bio reads like a can't-put-down-novel. Below is the first paragraph from her website.
I was born on the Fourth of July, and it's been fireworks ever since. Growing up in the San Francisco Bay area as one of six kids, I was never without a cast with which to stage my early theatrical productions, which included a musical rendition of "The Christmas Carol," in which I was Ebenezer Scrooge. I began writing at age eight, with short stories and poems, and I haven’t looked back since. From the early days of mostly collecting rejection slips, I went on to publish thirty-two novels for young adults, thirteen (and still counting) of women’s fiction, as well as numerous short stories and magazine articles, and one cookbook.
Read the rest of Eileen Goudge's bio. You HAVE to go read the rest. It is fascinating.

Eileen's latest novel is Once in a Blue Moon. It sounds fabulous!

About Once in a Blue Moon:

While she was growing up, twelve-year-old Lindsay had to look after three-year-old Kerrie Ann. When their mother was arrested and imprisoned for drugs, the girls entered foster care.

Nearly thirty years later, Lindsay owns a bookstore in the California seaside town of Blue Moon Bay. Adopted by a loving couple, she’s still trying to reconnect with her long-lost sister. Unbeknownst to her, Kerrie Ann has led a very different life, bounced from one foster home to the next. Now, newly sober, Kerrie Ann is fighting to regain custody of her own little girl.

When the sisters are finally reunited, the two very different women clash. As Lindsay and Kerrie Ann engage in the fiercest battles of their lives—while each embarks on a journey of the heart with the unlikeliest of men—they are drawn together.

Kindle for PC now available at Amazon.com

Got a Kindle? I do. I purchased mine several months ago and really enjoy it. It is a fantastic reader. I bought mine on Ebay and got a fairly decent price for it and saved a few bucks off the list price at Amazon.com. Then Amazon started dropping their price for their Kindle until it was well below the price that I paid for mine even on Ebay.

Now Amazon.com has released a FREE download of Kindle for your PC. I thought the purpose of having the Kindle was to be able to cut the strings from your computer for reading ebooks.

Oh well. I broke down and downloaded my free copy of Kindle for PC this morning. Looks great and it is syncronized with my Kindle reader. Now I have the best of both worlds.

Want the free download of Kindle for PC for yourself? Here's the link:

You can even sign up for a monthly subsription to this blog, Sizzling Hot Romance, for only 99 cents a month.

Joss Ware - Who is she and why am I just now finding her?

I just discovered this exciting author from my Romantic Times newsletter that I received in my in box this morning. Here is the blurb that caught my eye in RT (I am always interested in post-apocalyptic novels, especially with 2012 looming so near).

Our main feature for January is on doomsday fiction and is quite timely with the release of 2012, which took over the weekend cinema box office sales. We have been tracking this trend in fiction for over a year now and had the feature planned long before we knew about the movie! In the article we explore the public’s fascination with this topic, as well as why authors are creating “brave new” post-apocalyptic worlds.

There’s also a sidebar by Joss Ware, aka Colleen Gleason, who talks about her new post-apocalyptic series, launching in January with BEYOND THE NIGHT, which received a Top Pick. Joss is also the "Ask the Author" guest on our website, so be sure to visit her and bring all of your questions. She will be there through November 29!
I knew I had to find out more about Joss Ware aka Colleen Gleason. I Googled her and found she has a most beautiful and interesting website. I just adore the design of her site! So unusual and so effective for her new series of novels about the post-doomsday world.

Joss Ware has a degree in English and an MBA from the University of Michigan. Joss has 3 novels in the Awakening Heroes series that will be released in 2010. The 1st one, Beyond the Night, is scheduled for a Jan 10 release. The 2nd one, Embrace the Night Eternal, is set for release in Feb 10. The 3rd, Abandon the Night, will be out in March 10.

I honestly don't think I can wait that long to purchase them but I guess I will have to since I'm too late to enter the contest where Joss was giving away 3 ARCs of Beyond the Night at her blog. Boo hoo! I missed it, darn it! Always a day late and a dollar short!

About Karen Fenech
My first novel, Unholy Angels, was written over a two-year period and, in part, in some very unlikely places such as line-ups at deli-counters and cash registers, and doctor and dentist waiting rooms. While I was out running errands, I jotted down scenes for the story in a notebook I toted around in my purse, and then typed them up when I returned home.

Writing novels is what I have wanted to do since I was ten-years-old and undertook to write a book based on my beloved Nancy Drew mysteries. As I grew older, I continued to read mysteries but I found that as much as I enjoyed attempting to solve the puzzle, I became enthralled whenever a new development occurred in the romantic relationships of the characters. When I thought of writing Unholy Angels, I knew it would have to be a romance.

Of course, my love of mystery and suspense meant that while my characters were finding love, they would also face life-threatening danger!

I live with my husband Andrew and our daughter Pamela. When I’m not writing, or spending time with my family, you can usually find me curled up with a good book – or out shopping for one.

Author Mary Wine is "In Bed With A Stranger"

Mary Wine has written over twenty novels that take her readers from the pages of history to the far reaches of space.

A deception brought them together . . . but nothing can tear them apart

AN IMPERFECT MATCH

Brodick McJames is an earl in name only. To secure his clan’s future he needs an English wife. Mary Stanford, daughter of the Earl of Warwickshire, will suit perfectly. He’s never met her, but what matter? She’ll grace his bed eventually, and once she bears his child he need see her no more.

Anne Copper resembles her noble half-sister, but she was born illegitimate, and can never forget it. The best she can hope for is to stay a serving girl in her own father’s house. But when Lady Mary finds herself betrothed to a Scot, it seems there’s a use for Anne after all . . .

The woman who arrives in Alcaon is not what Brodick expects, and the passion that grows between them promises far more than a marriage of convenience. When fate draws two together, it may take more than a noblewoman’s plot to part them . . .

The first of three Amish-set novels in which a woman’s faith must guide her through challenging times.

All of Pleasant Valley seems to think the newcomer from Lancaster County is the perfect match for Teacher Leah. After all, so few new families come to their separate Amish community, and fewer still unmarried men. Daniel Glick is a widower with three young children to look after—clearly he’s in need of a wife.

Daniel’s past haunts him. Though he cannot miss the beauty in Leah’s bright eyes and patient ways, he also sees a reminder of his pain-filled marriage. Leah, too, has a burden to bear. Years ago, she was engaged to Johnny Kile, and she was heartbroken when he decided to leave the Amish community. Since then she has immersed herself in teaching, forgetting any hopes of having her own family. When Johnny returns, seeking reconciliation, Leah must decide between two pathways, either of which will completely change her life.

Kat Martin - NY Times Bestselling Romance Author

I just received a newsletter from Kat Martin with some great reviews of her Christmas book, The Christmas Clock.

Oh my! Christmas already? It's not even Halloween yet not to mention that Thanksgiving is still almost a month away. Yet I see Christmas decorations up in some of the stores now too. I guess it's never too early to start preparing for the Christmas season.

Anyway I clicked on the link in Kat's newsletter to visit her home on the web ... and found her real life home on the range. I'm so envious! Kat has my dream home! I've always dreamed of having a log cabin in the mountains. I guess when I become as successful an author as Kat is, I will be able to get my log cabin in the mountains too.

Go away, green-eyed jealousy monster!

Kat is the author of over 40 historical and contemporary romance novels. I'm the author of 4 novels and 2 non-fiction books. I have a long way to go to catch up with Kat's success and the chance to have my own log cabin in the Big Sky Country.

I need to set butt in chair, laptop in lap, and write, write, write! I want my log cabin! I want to be Kat Martin when I grow up!

ABA Asks for Government Investigation of Price Wars

By Jim Milliot -- Publishers Weekly, 10/22/2009 4:30:00 PM

In a letter sent to the antitrust division of the Department of Justice Thursday, the board of directors of the American Booksellers Association requested that the government begin an investigation into what the organization believes is the illegal predatory pricing policies being carried out by Amazon, Wal-Mart and Target in selling 10 hardcover titles for as low as $8.98. The ABA requested a meeting with officials as soon as possible, arguing that left unchecked, the predatory pricing policies “will devastate not only the book industry, but our collective ability to remain a society where the widest range of ideas are always made available to the public.”

Jennifer Blake - "The Steel Magnolia of Women's Fiction"

From Jennifer Blake's Website:
(Visit Jennifer Blake online)

"Blake's style is as steamy as a still July night on the bayou, as overwhelmingly hot as Cajun spice."

~ Chicago Tribune

Gallent Match
Masters at Arms, Book Five
February, 2009!

Sword master Kerr Wallace agrees to escort headstrong Sonia Bonneval to Mexico for her arranged marriage -- since the groom is the man he's been tracking for years. But the bride will do anything to avoid the wedding...

About Jennifer Blake
Jennife Blake has been called the Steel Magnolia of women's fiction, and a "legend of the romance genre." She is a seventh generation Louisianian who married at 15, began writing at 21, sold her first book at 27, and gained New York Times Best Seller status more than 20 years ago, with LOVE'S WILD DESIRE. She has written more than 50 books, including ROYAL SEDUCTION, SHAMELESS, and her acclaimed Louisiana Gentlemen series. An international best seller as well, she has been published in 18 languages with worldwide sales approaching 30 million. She was honored with the position as Writer-in-Residence for the University of Northeastern Louisiana, and is a charter, and honorary, member of Romance Writers of America.

Numerous awards for her work have been gained over the years. Among those she values most, however, are the Golden Treasure Award for Lifetime Achievement from Romance Writers of America, induction into both the RWA and Affaire de Coeur Romance Halls of Fame, and the Frank Waters Award for Excellence in Fiction.

Since 1998, Jennifer and her husband have resided in a lakeside Caribbean-styled retreat in North Louisiana where they often entertain friends and family. Always a gardener, she spends much of her free time encouraging her newly planted garden to bloom with her favorite daylilies and antique roses. When not gardening, she enjoys collecting antiques, painting, and needlework, including quilting.

Still, evenings find her and her husband lounging on one of the expansive verandas, sipping café au lait or a cool drink and listening to the gentle lap of waves. Here, as Jennifer says in her own words, "I write my fantasies of love and adventure in the romantic South. And sometimes, when I sit on the porch with the sunlight falling across the lawn and the smells of magnolia, sweet olive, honeysuckle and roses wafting on the warm air, I live them."

About Jennifer's Pseudonyms
During a career spanning more than 30 years, Jennifer has written under several pen names and in a variety of genres. She began with Gothic mystery-suspense tales, writing eight of these for Fawcett Gold Medal and Popular Library as Patricia Maxwell between 1970 and 1978, as well as a historical romance under that name in 1977. A single collaborative effort in the Gothic genre, STORM AT MIDNIGHT, was released in 1973 as Elizabeth Trehearne and, following the decline of the Gothic market, she wrote a murder mystery and a suspense tale under the pseudonym of Patricia Ponder. Six light contemporary romances were penned as Maxine Patrick for New American Library between 1978 and 1980, but the break out of her first Jennifer Blake title, LOVE'S WILD DESIRE, as a New York Times Best Seller in 1977, focused her attention on the historical romance market. Over the next decade, fourteen historicals were produced for Fawcett/Ballantine. Some of her older titles, originally published under other names, have been reissued under the Blake pseudonym. They appear in paperback and also in large print and library hard cover editions. They are currently available online and as print on demand copies at retail outlets which have this capacity.

A Look at Erotic Romance Author Cat Grant

About Cat Grant

I've been writing off and on ever since I was old enough to hold a pencil. I still remember my very first 'published' story, a Jonny Quest adventure I penned in sixth grade. My teacher liked it so much, she had one of the other students illustrate it. That other student went on to become a Hollywood horror-film director.

I've poked around in many different genres. I've written fan fiction for a number of different TV shows, tried my hand at horror and fantasy, but in the end I came back to what I enjoy most - writing about the intimate relationships between men and women, and how love doesn't always happen the way we expect.

Back in 2004, when I became unable to work outside my home, my incredibly supportive husband suggested that I turn this setback into an opportunity, and pursue my dream of becoming a published author. Several years - and untold buckets of sweat later - that dream's finally coming to fruition.

About Lauren Dane
The story goes like this – A few years ago, Lauren Dane decided to quit her job and stay home with her brand new second child. As a result, she had lots of conversations in a sing-song voice but no real outlet for adult thoughts and words. While on bed-rest with her pregnancy with the tiny monster, Lauren had plenty of down time so her husband brought home a second hand laptop and she decided to “give that writing thing a serious go.”

Lauren had no idea how fabulously wonderful it would feel to actually make a go of her writing and she’s thankful every day people actually want to read what she writes! She’s well aware of her good fortune and loves every moment of it, even when she has to edit and put Barbie’s dresses back on over and over again. She still hasn’t managed to figure out how to shut out the sound of the Backyardigans so she can write a love scene, though.

Sylvia Day - National Best Selling Author

Sylvia Day is the national bestselling, award-winning author of over a dozen novels written across multiple sub-genres — contemporary, fantasy, historical, futuristic, science fiction, romantic suspense, paranormal romance, and urban fantasy — under multiple pen names: three! A wife and mother of two, she is a former Russian linguist for the U.S. Army Military Intelligence.

Sylvia is a lifelong California resident who loves to travel. Her adventures have taken her to Japan, Holland, Germany, France, Mexico, Jamaica, and all over the United States. Born in Los Angeles, she grew up in Orange County (the O.C.), and later lived in Monterey, Oceanside, and the Temecula Valley.

She is a Japanese-American who enjoys the many Japanese cultural events in Southern California as well as frequent family jaunts to Disneyland, Knott’s Berry Farm, and Sea World. Her childhood career aspirations were few — become a dolphin trainer at Sea World or a bestselling novelist. Obviously, the dolphin trainer career took a back seat.

A year after she first sat down at the keyboard, Sylvia sold her first book to Kensington Brava and three years later–to the day–she sold her 15-17th single title books. In addition to her novels, she’s written numerous novellas and short stories for both print and electronic-original release. Sylvia’s stories have been called “wonderful and passionate” by WNBC.com and “wickedly entertaining” by Booklist. Her work has been translated into Russian, Japanese, Portuguese, Czech, German, and Thai. She’s been honored with the Romantic Times Reviewers’ Choice award, the EPPIE award, and the National Readers’ Choice Award, as well as multiple nominations for Romance Writers of America’s prestigious RITA® Award of Excellence.

Sylvia travels extensively in conjunction with various speaking engagements. In addition to presenting workshops before writing groups around the country, she is a frequent panelist at events such as the Romantic Times Convention, Romance Writers of America’s National Convention, and Comic-Con.

Sylvia also writes under the pseudonyms S.J. Day and Livia Dare.

Long, Lean and Lethal by Lorie O'Clare

Detective Rain Huxtable works alone, and she likes it that way. But when a fourth spouse turns up dead in Lincoln, Nebraska, Rain’s superiors call in help from the FBI. They’ve either got a serial killer or a hired murderer on their hands, and their solution is to team Rain up with Special Agent Noah Kayne - and send them undercover as a married couple.

Noah is infuriating…and infuriatingly attractive. Rain wants no part of this charade, but with four people dead under suspiciously similar circumstances in a matter of months, she has no choice but to play the part of a doting wife and investigate a close-knit group of suburban couples. It’s hard enough to keep up a professional facade when the heat between her and Noah burns so dangerously. But it may be even more dangerous for Rain to let her guard down once she realizes that the couples involved are playing a very sordid - and deadly - game…

About Lorie O'Clare

All my life, I’ve wondered at how people fall into the routines of life. The paths we travel seem to be well-trodden by society. We go to school, fall in love, find a line of work (and hope and pray it is one we like), have children and do our best to mold them into good people who will travel the same path. This is the path so commonly referred to as the “real world”.

The characters in my books are destined to stray down a different path other than the one society suggests. Each story leads the reader into a world altered slightly from the one they know. For me, this is what good fiction is about, an opportunity to escape from the daily grind and wander down someone else’s path.

Lorie O’Clare is an award winning erotic romance writer with over 40 books published. Her stories range from the wild lives of werewolves to the passionate and thrilling world of romantic suspense. She is an EPPIE Winner for 2006 and she also won Reviewers’ Choice Award for 2006.

Lorie currently resides in Kansas with her three boys and two dogs, a Boston Terrier and Beagle.
